The first Chiropractic adjustment was delivered on September
18th, 1895 by Dr. D.D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Palmer
was taking care of a deaf janitor, Harvey Lilard, who had
lost his hearing as a result of a fall down a staircase
some 17 years earlier. Upon palpating Harvey’s spine
Dr. Palmer discovered a “bump” indicating a
misaligned vertebrae and he pushed on it. A popping like
sound was heard and the bump was gone – Harvey’s
hearing was restored.
Dr. Palmer continued to check spines of other people and
within a short time he found that people with various health
challenges who were seeking his care were healing from their
ailments. Throughout time chiropractic continued to grow
and develop.
Today,
chiropractic education is vast and allows the doctor to
specifically locate a condition called vertebral subluxation
that can be putting serious stress on the nerve system.
Stress on the nerve system can lead to injuries and reduced
function causing a weak immune system resulting in disease.
Subluxations are corrected via chiropractic adjustments.
There are more than 150 documented Chiropractic techniques.
All techniques work. The most important thing is to find
the right one for you. Today’s chiropractors are well
versed with providing care to different sectors of the population.
They range from those that focus on family practice, pregnant
women, pediatrics, special need children and geriatric to
the athletic injuries, auto and work injuries. There are
those that focus on short-term care and those that provide
corrective care and lifestyle advice. Subluxations interfere
with the body’s expression of life. You feel their
effects but often are unaware that they are there.
So no matter what you choose, most important of all get
